About

Nick
I knew I’d be a landscape designer when I was just a kid.
Growing up in Ohio and Iowa, I got to see my dad and uncles working in agriculture,
and I was determined to make my own path.
I went to The Ohio State University, where I earned a degree in Landscape Horticulture
and a minor in History of Art—it was the perfect blend of the two fields I’m most
passionate about.
While at OSU, I had the opportunity to study landscape design in Northwest England.
The aesthetic of English gardens made a profound impact on me, and many of my projects
have ties to the classic design elements found in the English countryside.
I’ve owned and operated McCullough’s Landscape & Nursery, LLC since 1997. Family
operated, the business is a blend of my design aesthetic, our midwestern roots,
and a genuine love of making exceptional properties truly extraordinary.
I feel very fortunate to be doing what I love, and to have the amazing clients we
get to work with every day. We’re based in Columbus, Ohio—where I live with my wife
Allison, and our son James. When I’m not at a client’s house, you’ll find me at
a local farmer’s market, renovating our 1970s ranch, or around the backyard fire
pit with friends.
I started this blog to share my inspiration and knowledge to gardeners everywhere.
I hope by providing guidance, tips and how-do basics, readers will find ways to
make their outdoor living spaces feel even more like home.
